Turbo Timer Help Please!!!

My old Razo Turbo Timer decided to break so i ordered a new TT and today removed the old one. This had a wiring block with 3 thick wires and also had a separate red wire and separate black wire.
The new TT i bought is a Pivot Super Baby TT. It also has the same wiring block, but one of the wires is a different colour. It also has a separate brown wire and a separate black wire.
The brown is for the handbrake and black for earth, and i've connected these. Have also joined the wiring block to the one attached to the loom, which the previous TT was joined to.
It switches on, BUT when you turn the key from ACC to turn the starter motor it cuts out and you have to manually turn it back on each time which resets the display!
Didn't have this with the old one.......i'm thinking maybe the separate red wire was a permanent feed or something.
Anyone have any ideas how to rectify this as it'll drive me mad as i'm bound to forget to turn it on many times and do the turbo no favours!!
