Timing Chain Question

I am doing my head gasket but the chain dropped down into the casing along with a camshaft bolt!
Got the bolt back (and washer) as it had fallen in the sump but I am a bit confused, according to the manual it says there are mating marks on the chain for the crank and camshafts.

Seeing as I cannot see the crank sprocket I will not know if its mated in the correct place, or will it not matter as long as the engine is at TDC and the top mating marks for the cams are ok?

I know you should put the chain the same place as it came to mate up the minute wear marks.

Help please nice members.

IMO if the crank hasn't moved at all (ie it's still in the correct place, check the timing mark pointer) Then if you get the marks on the cams to line up the crank mark should also line up and all should be well.
