Hi all,

If i want to run a big(er) tubbie on my R is it the norm to fit a thicker headgasket :?: (say 1.8mm)

Cheers

with that size h/g you will need high comp pistons.

just wait until your engine goes pop, run enough boost and this will happen shortly lol

If you run lots of boost then conventional wisdom says you need a lower compression ratio to avoid detonation, a thicker head gasket is one way to achieve this.

It realy depends how much boost you intend to run as to wether you need to go as far as a 1.8/2.0mm headgasket. You may be able to get away with a 1.2mm gasket, but to be honest I don't know at what power/boost people recommend changing between the 2. :oops:

1.2mm is tihnner than the standard one here is a little chart for ya

Standard gasket
1.4mm = 8.3:1CR

Aftermartket gaskets

1.4mm = 8.3:1
1.5mm = 8.2:1
1.8mm = 7.9:1
2mm = 7.7:1

personally i think you guys need to learn what the "hi-boost" feature is on your boost controllers and stop wanting to run 2bar all the time.

Stick with the standard thickness and dont run more than 1.2bar on optimax and you are fine. Octane booster + optimax 1.3-1.4bar. Race fuel...run what ever you want.
