I give up now due to a small engine fire today caused by the hose coming off the oil cooler and pissing oil all over the exhaust manifold which was all lagged up to keep engine temps down and caught fire. I had a small foam fire extinguisher on board but for all the good it was i just had to watch it burn until the fire brigade decided to stroll up, it seemed like a life time.

1) Something for people to think about that have top mount oil coolers without the proper oil pipes (ie the hydrolic ones that are securely connected to the union fitting)

2) Do i claim on the insurance for this? And hope they write it off and then buy the car back and then break it?

3) Look out in the for sale section as the car will now be broken, 5 years iv had the car and spent an absolute fortune on it and has been nothing but trouble for me so its going now iv had it.

Yeah bob i think its melted the front loom but not sure how badly yet and its melted away a few other bits aswell :(

What do you guys think about an insurance job (claiming), Bearing in mind that no mods were declared !

Sorry to see it bud - you need some time away from the car until you've had a chance to cool down (no pun intended). Take a step back for a while then have a quick look at what needs replacing before making any decisions.

Good luck!

That's not good and I feel your pain! Hope you feel a bit less pissed off in a day or two and re-address the situation... if your not careful you might end up driving a subaru. I'm going to fit formed pipes now....

wow what bad luck :( That's repairable with just a days work though. So like others have said, shut the door and keep away from it for a few days whilst you can chill out a bit then have a look later.

And yes, those damn small fire extinguishers are complete and utter crap for anything more than a burning candle, but it should by no means mean the end of the car :)

Thats just bad luck fella, you must be well gutted. I know I would be. But like a few others have said, once you clean it up it won't look half as bad as it does now and that might give you the incentive to repair it. If it was my car I'd be well pissed, but ultimately I think I'd repair it. I'm sure the guys on here will help you out with good priced parts etc. All the best dude. :)
