temperature gauge

my temperature gauge in the car stopped working the other day, i have a new 1 ready to go on, can someone please tell me how to fit it and where abouts it is connected on the engine (front,back,side,etc) and how to get to it! thanks for your help

its at back of inlet manifold, to the right of the brake master cylinder, and is a bugger of a thing to get at unless you have little girlie nip hands!
i have to remove the master cylinder to get my mitts in there, but can be done without doing that.
