Steering rack removal

So I eventually got the rack out, you have to remove both track rods (not just the ends), then lower the gearbox side of the engine about 3-4". move the rack as far to the driver side as possible , then lift the passanger side of the rack between the gap of gearbox and rear engine mount/stabilizer. you can then pull the rack up and out through the engine bay. Nightmare job.

the rack I was going to replace with is in worse condition than the one I removed:roll:

so im thinking about trying to replace the oil seals myself, does anyone know where to get them from? and if its easy to do? or would i be better off getting a new rack...

managed to get the 2 rack seals from nissan £20!

hopefully will be ok re-using all the other bits. Looks a bit of a nightmare resetting the pre-load on the rack, dont have the correct torque wrench, may just try to leave same number of threads sticking out, or count the turns to undo

no they just push in, you fit them to the rack first using film, to protect them from the teeth (watched some guy on you tube putting the seal in first then ramming the teeth through it, needless to say it failed! Beauty of a workshop manual...) then I assume they just tap into the rack tube, the old seals werent too tight

seals arrived from Nissan, also came with new center bush, only took 2-3 days to come from Holland! rebuild time
