Standard ECU mapping

Fellas,

Just thought id let you know that im off to get my car remapped next week down at the racing line.

The ecu i have is a std one with a daughterboard in it, its gonna be mapped with emulator etc, to go with Q45 maf, 550cc injectors and a GT3071r, to get somewhere around 360 - 370bhp mark.

I know this aint a common thing, so il keep you all informed as to how i get on

Interesting.

Don't see the financial sense unless its really cheap to get this mapping done.

Emanage and map is a reasonable cost route imo.
Stand alone for those spending a bit more then..

I got the ecu for nowt, and gave it to matt at the racing line to see if it could be mapped.
Its on for next week and is only costing a couple hundred quid, same price as a map for the power FC minus the £600 cost of the ECU.

The emanage is 350 + 250 fitted and mapped = 120 quid of jungle juice to get down to see Ed.

It can work well. I'm collecting a pile of GTIR ecus and different daughter boards for a load of Nissan's with the intention to get into this. Combined with e-manage would provide a hugely flexible system. May sound odd to bother keeping e-manage but you don't need specialist gear to map that, but you do you need real-time eprom emulators to do a good job of re-mapping stock ecus. Its not a one size fits all solution (like they way the 200sx lot seem to have fixed chips - they almost never seem to be optimised for said car and cause some running problems) but if custom tweaked to each car I reckon you'll do very well from it Paul.

Cheers Ed,
Got the turbo you got me fitted, just running round on std boost at the mo but very impressive,

I got the ecu for nowt and just had a read about the whole daughterboard thing. It is huge down under, almost every pulsar and S13/14/15 is tuned using them.

Works out a lot cheaper for them than spending £700 on a power fc/ AEM etc.

Ive got base maps/ VQ maps for the Q45 MAF and stuff. Lookin forward to gettin it on the rollers and seeing what it can do. Ive got the Datascan on my laptop too, so we can keep an eye on everything as its done.

this might be of some interest to you Ed

Youve probably got ROM editor and the like. Are you looking at doing a bit of tuning to create a map you think will work, burn it and then install it and see how it goes.

all interesting stuff, make more sense to you than me as ive only recently looked into it.

Very interesting matey. I've been looking into this, off and on for quite a while now. Apart from the fact that you need to use a daughterboard or EPROM, there's no reason why this shouldn't be as effective as something like the Power FC. All the Evo and Impreza guy's just re-flash their OE ecu's using ECUTek or ECUflash software any way !
Will look forward to seeing your results.
Just for info, a few other places to look at:

Yup, thats what got me thinkin in for it too. My mate got his EVO5 Ecu remapped with an ecutek one. Got great results on it.

Think all cars after 1994 have to have a programmable engine management system for emmision control or something.

yes its common for alot of the more recent cars to be reprogrammed over their data ports. OBDII is a good example. Quite often however they are not as flexible as true remapping. I believe some of the ECUtek ones you have to make changes and then re-write and so on. It does work but much of them are more for common maps than specific custom one off maps.

ecutek is all mapped on a bench then tried out in car no real time mapping

Righyo fellas,

The mapping went well yesterday but my engine decided to give way. We just about had the fueling spot on, and the ringlands have gone on cylinder 4. Smokin like a bitch. Ba$tard

Sooooooo, with my engine now kaput, im after a short block, pref a knackered one, which i can rebuild with a steel bottom end.

Anyone got a bottom end they want shot of, email me with a price. Sooooooo gutted, words cannit even describe :-(

Shame

steel bottom end ??? no need :-D

If built to factory standards using after market Rods, rod bolts and forged pistons and use the tolerances in the workshop manuals you can't beat the bottom for strength.

If your not planning 450 bhp+ then I'd stick with the standard rods and just get them shot peened and use a set of ARP rod bolts. For Pistons theres a whole world of choice but the more common ones include CP, Wiseco & HKS to name a few. Then just a new complete gasket set from Nissan, a multi layer metal head gasket from Tomei or............new OEM water pump, OEM oil pump rotors and a timing chain guide and thats about your lot. Then I would very strongly recomend your get the block and main caps line bored and the whole rotating mass (new pistons, rods & new bolts, crank, crank pulley, flywheel & clutch cover balanced by a specialist. I might have left one or two bits out for what I'd call a basic modified rebuild but thats around about it.

Theres loads of stuff on here to help anyway, just use the search button. If you need part numbers just PM me, glad to help.

Hope that helps

Steve

oh dear, not good!!!!

ive returned your pm paul.
ive also got a bare block in good nick, if you want to go down that route!

other engine has a knock which will be bigend on its way out!

or have a good complete engine still in car running, with good comp and oil pressure!

but latter two obviously both need removing, which i wont have time to do this week, where as block is all ready for delivery or pickup.

its a right fcuk when things like this happen, not good at all:roll:

cheers fellas,
im gonna have a word with steve at tom fergs in newcastle, see what my options are, il just look for forged pistons on maybe std rods.
more than capable of building my own bottom end, but just never taken the gtir engine out before, obviously time etc.

Im going to look into options, building the bottom end abd then giving it to a garage is another option.

[diesel weasel]sounds like it went real well

[/QUOTE]

i think that its been coming, the engine breather had been breathing heavily out of the pipe more and more, he had the det sensor on cylinder 4 too and never heard it.
The standard ECu with the chip is more than doable, and the last power run, where it was dtill running a touch rich, was 275bhp at the wheels.

Il let you know how i get on.
