standard blow of valve noise

ever since i can remember my pulsar has always made the cheeeww sound once i come off throttle under boost, identical to that of after market BOVs. i have in the last few months removed the engine for work twice once for head gasket and again for a bottom end, there for another story.

the engine has had countless new bits as part of basic maintenance whilst out, including new vac pipe ect however the BOV has been left alone.

today was the first time to test the car, the boost came in and hard like it used to, its maintaining boost at 16 psi i take my foot of and no noise, the pressue is vented out and drops to -7, try again no blow off noise. i talk it though with a mate that builds turbos told him my standard BOV doesn't make the blow off noise and he says it shouldn't do it any way, and perhaps there was a fault previously that made the blow off noise that has been sorted.

so my question are:
it should the standard BOV make a noise and i have problem?
or it should it be silent and i fixed a problem?

It shouldn't really make enough noise for you to notice. - It's designed to recirculate the air back to before the turbo (after the AFM), so there's no noise of it "dumping" to atmosphere.

So if you could hear it before, perhaps it was venting to atmosphere. - Not a huge problem since almost every after-market valve does that, but if that meant there was an open pipe letting unmetered air in that could have been a problem.

Sorry to drag up an old post but thanks for confirming.
