You need to check the gaps with the engine hot, so warm it up - now pull off the top mount and the rocker cover without injury and check the gaps on all 16 rockers - 2 places on each rocker :shock: according to the book. If any gaps are out of spec, you'll need to remove the problem shims, make a note of the thickness and order new ones. When (if!) they arrive, build it all back up and recheck the gaps with it warm.
Oh, and if the cams or rockers are worn you should change them too, just to make it more annoying
