Selecting Gears

I'm having trouble selecting 1st and reverse and de-selecting 5th.

It goes into 1st no problem if I put it in 2nd then into 1st.
Even when car isn't running I'm getting these probs.
It will go into these gears and out of 5th but feels notchy or like it doesn't want to, if you know what I mean

Anyone any ideas?

Synchro shot? - I'm sure Red Reading can give you a good diagnosis when he sees this.

Panicking now.
Expensive, hard job, how long would it last as is?

Yep gearbox out I'm afraid mate. If you run it as it is it'll just cause more damage

The clue is in his name... Reading; quite a way from Northern Ireland.

Not really,i can refurb your old box but beware just replacing 5th gear the parts can be £280+ alone,the boxes i have at the moment are one's that were fitted to cars i knew and were repaired as i had a large stock of parts,when there gone there gone. any normal gearbox specialist will charge around £400 plus part's to repair a gearbox which means an average bill of circa £900.


And i am based in Reading,Berkshire,england
