Hi, I want to clean up my manifold heatshield.....but the bolts on there look rather rustsy -i havent tried to undo them yet, but whats the best way of getting them out if they are weak? or is it a case of give it a go & be carefull?

thanks in advance...

Not much you can do other than soak them in WD40 or Liquid Spanner b4 you try to undo them... although that'll burn off if you run the engine.

If they do shear you're looking at trying to drill them out and helicoiling the threads.

I've just taken mine off - they were rusted to fook but came out with no problem at all - the threads were clean.

Oh... and try to use a flank drive spanner or socket to minimise the risk of rounding off the corners of the heads.

Give em a whack with a hammer first, and then heat them if you have the gear and they should come out no probs
