Just took the car out for a drive after about two weeks of it sitting in the garage. Put me foot down after it had warmed up and it seemed to hit the limit at around 7,000 rpm, is this right? My last one (import) went round to 8-8.5 rpm

7500 is the standed limit so your last import was proberly chipped or had a faulty tacho.
