I went to one last year near Elvington (not so far from you IIRC). It was ace.. MK2 Escorts with quaife boxes, piper cams, top rear wheel drive @rse out action.

My Mrs got it for me from Boots I think.

I did that one too about 6 years ago direct from the back of a magazine. Great fun but a lot of sitting round compared to a trackday. Pluspoint is its a compleyely diferent car so no meaningful comparisons, loads of tail out action and no risk of killing your pride and joy.

Stick some details up when you find them as that's quite near me. :)

Any good places in the north to teach you how to drive round a track properly?

Give me 10 minutes and I'll rack my brains what it's called!!!

*edited to say FOUND IT!!*

Well recommended - I did the half day one. Not as easy as it looks (I'm an 8 stone weed and found it difficult to stear the heavy stearing whilst yanking the hydraulic handbreak!!).. great fun though all the same. Real nice set of people who run it and CHRIST - the passenger seat ride at the end of the day is something else.

Seaton Ross the little village is called.

i went on one a few months back, and was a brilliant day aswell, drove a rally prepped evo which was fairly quick no lag at all, drove a fairly new scoob STI which was a great car (not as quick as the R in a straight line) with fantastic handling as standard, a rally polo 16v and a rally pug 205 gti.

heres a web address of the company who do it fairly cheap aswell, http://www.ferraridriving.com/rally.htm
here are a couple of pics when i did mine

this isnt me driving but this is the scoob i drove

the only thing, you get there you think you know how to drive, coz you have a powerful motor, but you know foook all, these are guys in there 50's and still hold there wrc license and know there stuff.

I've done the same one as Rayman, at Everyman Racing, near Loughborough.
All their cars are Grp. N spec, the Evo was v. good fun and the Grp N Polo was my favourite. The 205 just showed its age in comparison, but was a useful starting point for the (half)day. ;)
Chose them because you got a good variety of decent cars + a session in go-karts which was an extra thing compared to the others I had the choice of.

Oh and the guy that drives you on the sighting laps will make it all seem soooo easy!

Most track days offer personal tuition aswell. Thats probably the best start. Harewood do a hill climb driving school, which ought to be good and close to harrogate aswell.

i did the basic rally school lessons at brands hatch on their 2 little circuit courses in a pug 106. great fun, wicked instructors, mixed surface' s and lots of gradients :p i even won a trophy 8)

my driving review written by some mad bloke with a death-wish

Stuart would make an excellent rally driver as he has absolutely no consideration for his passenger whatsoever!
one of my proudest moments i think :D
