ive just hit 1600 miles runnin my engine in after full forged rebuild ... things ive noticed since rebuild
oil temps are higher than before , normal driving reads two notches down from dead centre ( i beleive this to be 100 deg) this is one notch higher than pre rebuild temp... however any spirited driving including motoway cruising at say 80mph brings the temps up to dead centre of the gauge, with any on boost above 8omph reading as much as 1 notch over the centre mark ...question is when should i start to be concerned ..do oil types make a difference ? im running oilmans silkolene race oil
the mechanic had the oil cooler pressure tested during the course of rebuild to eliminate it from the oil in water symptoms that led to the rebuild ..could this have affected my coolers condition ..?
the car has also felt like its holding back somewhat with on boost acceleration being good but not quite right ...this was something i felt even more sure on tonight ..after putting some fuel (optimax of course ) in the r tonight i pulled away from the petrol station and the car seemed to pull like hell , it felt like it was breathing properly then all of a sudden after say 200 yards its felt restrained again , its almost like it needs to clear its throat ,like its bogging down alittle ..hard to describe ..... when i pull onto my drive and switch off theres steam coming from down behind the intake plenum in the area of the oil filter ish ... im suspecting water pipe leak back of block , car hasnt overheated yet though ... any thoughts on either problem will be welcomed , anyone feel they could be related ... this all happened tonight after midnite so ambient temps will have been quite low .....sorry about the essay cheers in advance

Well steam from the back of the engine can only mean one thing, And that as you say one of the water pipe's must be split or leaking. They may not of done one of them up properly  .

Did you buy a new set or are you still useing the old ones?.

Oil temps I don't see why they should be higher than before :? , Maybe the oil cooler stat is faulty  , ECU could be going into safe mode that might explain the lack of power, Have you done a fault code check?.

I use the same oil as you and my temp gauge doesn't move off the bottom mark inless I'v been in traffic for a while  , I think a 19 row oil cooler is a bit over kill  maybe  .

if it is a water pipe on the back of the block can it be changed with the engine in place? , also when i woke the next morning and checked my radiator , i had the dreaded mayonnaise floating on the top , in the rad only though ..the reservoir was fine and so was the oil cap .. im pretty sure it wont be a head gasket as its a metal hks one ... im thinking my oil cooler may have given up the ghost , hence the highish temps .. am i right in thinking the standard oil cooler is water cooled and therefore could allow for the mixing of oil and water .... i priced up a standard oil cooler from nissan and it comes in at 316+ vat... would i be better off with an uprated cooler , and can i use one with a top mount ?

Looks like you maybe changing the standard oil cooler then  , You can't get rid of it all together as it works both ways heating up the oil water when the cars cold.

Looks like an engine out job to me lol.

If you get the car on a ramp you can strip a few bits ou the way and actually reach these pipes with the engine in situ (it also helps when you have pliers with 16" handles  )

All joking aside though, it's a complete pain in the a$$, but it can be done with the engine in place.

they did it with the engine in place ...apparently they removed the intake manifold and attacked the situation from above ... when i lived in wiltshire i used norris designs but down here in torpoint cornwall you hardly ever see a pulsar , so plymouth nissan it had to be ... there arent many specialists down these parts ...it just hacks me off that i could have spent the money on a front mount instead ...at least with the dealer ive got comeback if the jobs not done right.... just the oil temps to sort now .....at what temps should i start worrying , at 80 + mph or a mild thrash and im seeing past half way on my oil temp gauge , what do you guys think? can i do any damage running those temps ?

You should of replaced all the rear water pipes while thay had it apart, If you didn't your stupid :? , If one goes that means the other's could as well there all the same age.

Would of only added £30 or £40 to the bill  .

I'v got a full set sitting in the garage for future use 8) .

took me about 4 hrs to swop the one from the block to the oil filter housing with the engine in place. Hardest part was getting the clips off the hose. Took my arm about 2 weeks to recover from the position i had to get it into to do the job though :(

no there not silicon as I couldn't find anybody that made a set, I got them from nissan mate  , Along with all the other bits and pieces that nissan never have in stock  that I might need for an engine rebuild.

for that money i would think that someone off here would thave travelled to your place and done the job. at least you would be safe in the knowledge that you car hadn' t been thrashed up and down a road cold  while it was TESTED or even used as a runaround as i have known some unscrupulous people to do
