i had an hks shifter fitted for 18 months and 36k miles without any problems.the gearbox even lasted for about 12 months more after i took it out iirc.

it's the same with anything you fit, there'll always be loads that have problems but just as many that don't.

iirc, someone said you increased the pressure with a quick shift.don't know how that could be possible with a shorter lever though :?

thats what i was thinking oap-r,i think im gonna try it and see.i just cant see how it could damage the gearbox?someone told me that it changes to quick for the cogs, but id presume that once the gear is in then its in :).

mine had a quick shift, and you had to shift slowly or it wasn't happy.. so i would not bother personally. just my two cents.. save your cash get bigger brakes or a bump steer kit. you'll enjoy your car ten times more because of it and not risk any gear box failures.

Thinking of the mechanics of it, it can't affect the gearbox anymore or less than a normal shift. All I can think is it forces you to change gear more aggressivly as you've got a smaller lever action that in turn makes it difficuly to change gears and damages the gearbox.

ive got problems with 2nd to 3rd with my standard shifter, when under hard acceleration it likes to stick sometimes.otherwise i would just leave it the way it is.

synchro...is a common problem here

If you've already got synchro problems I would say the quickshift is going to do more harm than good :( . Basically you are changing the pivot point so your arm doesn't travel as far, but the poor old gearbox still has to move the gear the same amount so it has to engage quicker.

Try driving around in a 1.4 Escort as a daily driver then get back into the 'R - feels like a quickshift deluxe then :D :D

must admit ,thats the first thing that impressed me with the R.how short the standard shift was :D .
