When should the timing chain be changed?

From everything I have read and heard, the timing chain is meant to last an engine it's lifetime and I know of a few reputable engine builders that don't change it on a rebuild but I must admit to changing mine when I rebuilt my engine. If your in that neck of the woods you must change the chain guide and tensioner as there was a design revision and I thinks it's considered to be an improvement on the one originally used in our engines.

Quite........... I think you'd be changing a bit more than the timing chain, if that ever happened ! ;-)
