Pulsars Go Cheap Cheap

it has finally occured to me just how cheap the gtir has now become, i broke one a few months ago and made a packet out of spares! but now you can pick up a good one if you look around for under £3000 with mods. i bought one back in febuary for £2500 which i wanted to rebuild and prep for curcuit racing next year, i have done rebuild myself as im a mechanic and car now stands me in at around £7000 and a lot of stuff i have got cheap or secondhand, 'how gutting is that' i will never get that money back if i ever sold it. i have one advertised on fleabay at moment with rebuilt engine but dodgy bigend and all i wanted was to get money back i paid for it, but it strikes me that everybody wants something for nothing. i feel sorry for all you lads that bought there Rs a year or so ago and paid 6000+ for them plus money to mod them, as you will lose a fortune if you ever go to sell it!
anyway ive finished whining now, but my point was that a lot of you seem to think that there Rs are worth a fortune when in reality there not as you will find out if you ever go to sell it, this unfortunately is a harsh but true fact! as sad as it may be:cry:

I can never understand why the Escort cossie (as mentioned in a thread elsewhere) holds so much value when it's about the same age, spec and slower than the Gtir. They are both fairly small volume cars compared to your average family car.

thats true i payed £5500 for mine 5years ago and ive spent about 6-7k on it engine rebuilds and all sorts of stuff but look at it this way peeps who buy them and then carnt afford to repair it and then scrap it its going to be better for those who decide to keep hold of there R the prices will only start to go up soon because theres no more in japan coming over i dont think so anyway becuase my mate goes to the jap auction in liverpool and ive never seen any there only skylines and scoobys and couple of evos

Yeah, sorry but i have noticed a slightly inflated valuation process going on in here, loads of 3k gtir's nockin about now fresh imports too and some with decent mods (on the surface anyway). however, i think this is an afliction of every owners group/club. when i first got into (rare)cars i was even told by a person running a register that will remain nameless (non jap cars?!) not to bother looking at the for sale ads as they were all "a bit over priced" but i suppose you could argue that your buying from some one who has loved the car i suppose?!

P.s. this is not intended to be a slur of anykind of the owners on this site just an observation! i hope to become an owner soon and im sure I will massively over value mine (even though i will no boubt end up with a right shed!!)

yes thats true, but i think it will be a long long time before that happens!
seems to me that cost of uprated parts is another killer, i just paid over £200 for a steel hks gasket which is insane!
as fastguy just said the cossie holds its value a lot more as the parts are a lot cheaper and readily available, and like it or not it is considered more of a cult car as everybody has heard of a cossie! i do love the gtir though as its different and not everybody has one unlike scoobies, cossies and evos! there a bit of a wolf in sheeps clothing.

you will always loose money when buying a modded car and modding. ididnt buy my car as a investment and dont think i will get my money back, i have wanted one for years, and as you dont see many around.

I don't think I'd heard of the Gtir before I got one, but when I went round to an ex mates house to show him it his first words were "F*ck me, you've got a cossie killer"
I guess he was impressed;-)

i had never heard of the GTiR untill my m8 got one and took me out in it, i'll never forget that feeling wen he unleshed it as we went out of town, in fact i bought the very same car of him 6 months later and after 2 1/2 years on i still go out with a massive grin on my face as i unleash the beast from the east!! Love it

R's cost on average 10-15k.

Its just that you only have to fork out 3k at the beginning.

I see them as a kit. You buy the base car for 3k, then spend the rest 'finishing it off'.

I'm bloody thankful they are so cheap, means you can get bits and shells for peanuts.

Try re-shelling an Escort Cosworth for 2k.....

If I had the money I'd buy 10 R's, make em all to different specs.

i want one in every colour!

ive always wanted an escort cossie but that goes down to the fact i spent the last 10 years playing around with fords of all variants XR's and RS's and i al;ways saw the escort cossie as the pinnacle of all things ford (apart from the gt40). my mate had a saph cossie and TBH i preferred my series2 at the time as it was a better all round car. i still dont know why they hold their price so well. think they were 22k new and you still have to pay around 15k for a good one.

thats why the R is a better car - its a LOT more bang for buck and we also have the same rarity factor that goes with the escort cossie :hail:

They might be fun - but how the heck do they manage to pick up dents in the middle of the bonnet while they're left alone for 4days?! :x

**** it, I own mine in March - and as I figure it, whatever it stands me at its doesn't matter, because its all 'profit' so to speak, as you own the car outright. If you already own your car its the same no matter how much you paid for it, as its all equity. Cars are just a hobby!

The way I see it is you could be paying £200 a month to own a 1.2 clio fooking billabong, or you can own an R and an oil burner 306 for the same amount of money
