pulsar knocking from top of engine

whats this knocking from top end of engine it sounds like a cam are they prone for cams going

What oil have u got in, cos was told that with 10w-40 they can make a knocking noise.

check your alternator and see if your missing a nut from the pivot bolt

Is it more of a tapping noise? Could be it needs re shimmed, possibly just wear. I would be a bit worried if it is a loud knocking noise tho!
Does it sound more like an old fiesta, or a perkins deisel?
