Please help me i am new to the Pulsar and need some advice! I have a pulsar GTI-R which has only been in uk for 3 months! There is a few problems to say the least and i am new to these cars i havent got a clue and all of my friends have cossie`s :( For starters i think my boost is turned to far as my factory fitted boost gauge goes off the gauge and the n keeps increasing the boost until about 5000 rpm where it starts to miss! Also if left running stood still it then misses as soon as the boost trys to come in if i only slightly touch the accerator its fine but as soon as u try and use boost it very badly misses and exhaust note everything changes :( I am from teesside and there are no garages up here :x I dont really know if anythings has been done to it in Japan but airfilter, dumpvalve, sparkplugs and turbo timer are all HKS! If any1 has any ideas please help my email is notreal008@yahoo.co.uk Thanks Sonic

have a look in the newbies section, and do a fault code check (tells you how in the section) I'd buy or borrow an aftermarket gauge to check your boost.

Spark plugs may not be gapped correctly for amount of boost, could be fuel pump problem.

If the ECU has been changed or chipped it may have a bad map on it.

Could be faulty dizzy etc, there are so many things mate.

Just the process of elimination. It's all been asked before, so use the search mate it's a big help.

Failing that just found this in google quick search, not used them myself, but they may be able to help....

1) Check the wastegate actuator hose isn't disconnected or leaking. This will cause to run as much boost as the turbo will produce and kill your engine quickly. If you have a top mount fitted make sure you check the hose is connected at both ends of the metal pipe underneath it.

2) Also have a look at all your boost hoses to make sure non have popped off or are split.

3) After checking those 2 things I would suggest the ECU fault check as suggested.

4) Then check your plug gaps are ok.

5) Time to start looking at components.... MAF, dizzy, leads, etc etc

My money's on 1

Cheers Guys !!

Cheers guys i will do the check list and check my actuactor pipes! Thanks again for the quick responses! Will keep you posted P.s i have already found 3 pipes off and 1 of which was a blocker pipe or whatever there called on top ov each piston and 1 was missing and blowing air out ov my no1 cylinder :( So theres a gud chance there is more pipes off! Kind regards John

On top of each piston?
The plug leads are the only thing above the pistons, unless you meant in the intake manifold.

I had a similar problem with mine. I changed the plugs in the dark and unfortunately forgot to put one of the small pipes located at the back of the intercooler back on  so the turbo was running unlimited boost and the needle was doing the same thing shooting off the scale. If you put the foot down the boost would throw you back in the seat but then once the maximum limit was reached for the fuel pump it started to cough and splutter and as you say may a sort of scooby noise

Once the pipe was refitted it worked as should and all was fine after. if the actuator is also stuck open? it will cause the same thing to happen, by the sounds of it the fuel pump hasn't been uprated so it will max out before the turbo reachs full potential.

Sort the overboosting and you will sort the other probs i reckon

Goodluck, Ant. :D

I had the same problem when i put the intercooler back on forget to put the pipe at the back on and had a hell of a time finding what was wrong.
Sort it out or it will go pop.

Timing ????

I have been told that cos its an import the timing will need resetting as the petrol in Japan is alot better and that might be another reason why its missing ? Is this true ?????

yes mate they run 20 degrees iirc from japan, most people have it retarded to 18 degrees so it runs safer on Optimax, are you still running it on 95 ron?

Try the fuel filter and plugs etc

BTW its Dicko's mate jeff

My water never goes over half temp either, so unless its jammed as well I wouldn't worry about that ;) Missed your point about the thermostat though, say again.

you need the thermostat to maintain a constant pressure, this stops the water boiling as it makes its way around the head, creating gas (steam) pockets and nasty hotspots...or so iv been told. is this correct??

My water temp never goes over half either, but I would fit a new (Nissan) thermostat to be on the safe side tho.
