Probably a stupid question

What would happen if I'd left the small tube disconnected that connects from the boost solonoid to the pipe after the air filter?

Not that I've done this of course.

Could it explain funny boost readings, low mpg, rich running etc... ?

ummm. it shouldnt have any effect.. except that the pipe would then be open to the air rather than to clean air after the filter.. also the presure in te intake tube might be slightly lower than the engine bay presure..

not sure about this tho.. as i think the pipe is a dump pipe rather than a suck pipe.

yeah its a dump pipe when its bleeding the air off to increase boost.

I wouldn't expect it to really make a noticeable difference, as you have a hole in your intake and its past the AFM then it could possibly cause you to run lean, but i wouldnt have thought the hole was anything like big enough.

It may give you a high idle i guess, and theres possibly unfiltered air going through the engine.

I've blocked it off now and appear to get better boost.

Runs a lot better :D
