You won't get any probs day-to-day driving but I certainly wouldn't suggest it running an R.. we all like to hit the throttle now and again and on a long distance drive you will certainly have the fluid over hot which could cause damage to the seals inside. Plus the hotter the fluid, the thinner it's volume = less pressure = harder steering eventually.
ok thanks for that, wasnt for my, road car was for my auto cross car , race lasts approx 10 mins but a lot of opposite lock work, so wasnt sure if it would be ok ,Jim
Well lock to lock the pumps pressure up to about 1200psi so you can imagine with fluid passing through the system at that pressure, things can get rather hot. I personally would leave it in place because if the top seal in the pump don't blow out for any reason, then the main seal in the rack will.. and although the racks are cheap to replace, a bugger to get out.
