Painting the dashboard trim

To all you lads out there that have done this, what grits of sandpaper have you worked thru to get a quality finish. I actually want to do mine a satin/matt red colour and maybe with purple pearl - I do love the silver but seen it on heaps of others (including new cars too). Just wanna be that bit different... Cheers boyz

I used 240 grit to take off most of the ripple didnt want too use anything to coarse.
Then used a high build primer and flattend it back with 800 grit.

Same here, bit of scotchbrite to key it up, then a few coats of highbuild then finished off with 800 wet and dry
