ANybody running an oil cooler changed their oil whilst its been colder? Am i right in thinking if i cant get my oil up to the temp the thermostatic plate opens then im not going to able to drain the oil down from the cooler. Max oil emps ive been seeing are about 70 recently

you are unlikley to get all the oil out anyway unless you pump new stuff round and flush it out and im not sure how you would be able to do that, you could always unbolt the cooler and drain it out that way

as loz says, to drain the cooler fully you`ll have to take it off unless all the ancillaries and cooler are above the thermostatic plate.
i`m pretty sure this has been asked before and a chap who worked on evo`s said he never bothered changing it in the cooler.

you`ll probably find as well that the thermo plate is ever so slightly open all the time anyway to allow a small amount of oil to circulate
