any ideas anyone
basically unlock the car as usual with keyfob turn on ignition all lights light up as usual and nothing , hear fuel pump buzz but no startermotor .
this happened first when i was out somewhere , stranded for about 20 mins scratching my head until i wiggled the earth wire and away she went( was slight movment in connector on battery earth)
anyway tightened this up and was fine
.
next day same again .

next time car turned over very slowly like a flat battery , put battery charger on battery after a short while was showing battery full, still non starter and not turning over or clicking atall , tried another known good battery and same again not turning over.
then checked all the earths on chassis/engine cleaned them up.
car then starts, turn it off , starts again, i go to bed happy thinking its all sorted out.
out to it today same again like its a flat battery but turning over slowly , then nothing atall from both batterys , and still nothing tonight
 bloody cars

try putting a jump lead from neg on battery to good engine earth, if that dont work then its more than likely you have a knackered solenoid on the starter motor.
theres a little spade connection on the top that you can just get your hand onto, try wriggling that around as it maybe a bad connection there

i did think starter motor but its strange that sometimes it will turn over although very slowly
i'l try the jump lead , good thinking lol

will rocking the car in gear get the starter to work (temp), used to work on previous old shitter escorts etc when i was a lad

no if its not clicking then the solenoid isnt engaging, its probably just a dirty contact in the solenoid itself or might be the commutator in starter motor needs cleaning and a new set of brushes possibly, but if its knackered then its cheaper to just slap another one on it.

What about the high-current lead to the starter?
The solenoid clicks open, but it can't draw enough juice to turn the electric starter over. - Not so crazy if you know you've got some problems with the earthing; maybe you have a problem with the connection on that one too. The starter is earthed to the engine, so it could be an earthing problem anyway (because if the current can't get back from the block the circuit is still open).

tried wriggling the spade connection and the earth but sod all , just a relay click and sound of fuel pump buzzing.
how easy is it disable the immobiliser/alarm usually , only reason is it used to be a bit tempermental and not work first time all the time, and basically doing the same as it is now , hence my thinking its imobiliser.
looks like its gonna cost me (why did i buy another one)

I have the exact same problem at the moment, I have just finished rebuilding the engine but it all back in the car its lights up turn the key and just the click of the starter relay and not turning over at all......?? Very annoying. The starter was fine before it came out never missed a turn but it has been sat for about a year???

I had this problem !well i created this problem for myself you need to make sure all the earths are connected and that all the positive cables are connected to the live side of the battery.

All sorted now its was the main positive terminal I had connected in the wrong place as my battery is in the boot. That will teach me for working on my car at 2.00 in the morning.
Fired up first turn, now just got to run it in.
Cheers Guys
