its bin getting worse for awhile now ive got std shocks & springs when i go over a small bump its like hitting abrick also the steering wheel pulls abit especailly in the wet. my mates a mechanic and we had it on the ramp and he said nothing looks worn or broke but it could be the top mounts which he couldnt see .
do u think this is a likely cause? if so are they easy to fit and does anyone have a part no
cheers

Sounds to me that your shocks are worn. Are you getting a bouncing effect on the front of the car?

One test that the mot people do to check the shocks is called the bounce test, they push down on the car to activate the shocks and if they are ok then they should settle after a max of 1.5 bounces, if its more than this then they require replacing.

Another check you can do is to look for leaks (oil) around the shock itself, this will tell you if a seal has bust and you are losing fluid which in turn prevents any dampening of bumps etc.

If you have the tools and no what you are doing, safety wise, changing the shocks is a doddle.

Hope this helps.

Ant. :D

What size tyres are you running. The lower profile they are, the (much) worse things feel.

If its like hitting a brick, I'd be surprised if its your dampers as they slow the oscilation rather than stop it all together.

Bascially not enough info to make any sort of diagnosis. how big are the small bumps? what speed are you hitting them at? what does the car do during and after you hit it? Are there any noises during normally cruising.

Is it both sides or just one? Is one worse than the other?

Could be top mounts causing the pulling but it could also be geometry out or a worn ball joint?

ive checked for leaks on the shockers but theres none .
as for speed and size of bumps its kinda random sometimes a small bump can be real loud and sometimes adeep drain could make no noise.
another thing i notice is when parked up and turning the streering wheel
to check for noise the front end is going up and down a fair bit is this normal :?:
