No power and sounds like a Scooby

So the car was parked up for about a month. Started it up and its burbling like a scooby. Drove it up the road and goes like it has only 5 hp. Spark plugs are new. Suspected it had some sort of air leak before cos was idling at 1200 and would intermittently and very faintly come off power for a brief second whilst crusing but now is a lot worse. What could it be?

Changed the plugs and thankfully it seems to have cured it. Goes like a rocket! But the idle is still funny. Sometimes it's ok at 900-950, sometimes it's over 1,500 and sometimes down to just 500. Any ideas?

Mine was running a bit like this and I found that the link in the middle of the throttle bodies had loosened itself slightly meaning they where slightly out of balance. Re-adjusted and tightened up and all is good.
