what could of made the top of the pistons look like the moon they have craters all over them
no burn marks or carbon.

looks like it going to the scrap heap in the sky lol

Sounds like detonation to me too. Does the piston look like this by any chance?

yep det, check the plugs to make sure none of the porcelain bits have burnt away as they will pebbledash the pistons and the head too

put a pipe cleaner down the spark bores and it looks like a lot of the dimples and pitted bits are residue as the pistons cleaned up nicely well abot 5mm sq anyway
new sparks plugsafter a mile the tips have gone white and carbon up a little
