iv a pretty standard car with regards to ecu , engine and tubby (i think)
as title, iv an msd blaster coil fitted to my R for a good 2+weeks now used everyday and the car is still going
without searching, i think his name was austin mentioned about widening sparkplug gap with the MSD. iirc he' s running 18psi with a .8gap (cant remember what plug)
i have denso ik24' s and ive opened mine up to .85 at 1BARish and had no problems at all for the hour or so i was out terrorising the tarmac . no snow by the way :( and the little exaust pops on tickover that other more learned people not just numpty numpty me put down to the dv have pretty much gone too 8)

would a knock sensor help when experimenting with plug gap?

The knock sensor would only detect det. If your gap is too wide, it will eventually blow out, if it's too small the spark should be too weak to do the job properly. Both issues would cause running problems, but I can't see either leading to det.
