I know its probably a stupid question, but what do you think would be better for a 4 branch, mild steel or stainless ? Been reading the recent posts about manifolds cracking and what not and wondered if a mild steel one would be better. I'm assuming mild is softer than stainless ? Just wondered if it could cope with the vibration / heat stress better as it is slightly more flexible.

Besides, I need a manifold, I can weld mild, and I'm really poor :(

so long as you use THICK walled material it will only depend on your welding skills.

Mild steel doesnt expand or contract as much as stainless. I think that a carbon steel, welded elbow manifold with ceramic coating is best (although i am biased ). If you get stainless thick walled though it will be a few kg's lighter.
