yesterday my car was back firing a lot i got her really hot and checked the ignition timing as the how to guide says! i found it was slightly out so i adjusted it and now the distrubutor is fully advanced on the slots but the timing is right and it no longer backfires! but surely if shudnt be maxed out on the adjustment slots any ideas??

yes,as there will be a reason why this has happened ,i.e a fubar'd cam chain tensioner etc. which could blow your engine up!

well i havent had the car too long! but it was rebuild just before i bought it and the distrubtor has always been quite advanced since ive owned it ! if it is 1 tooth out would it be looseing power

yes,if the static engine timing is out you will loose power and you won't be able to set the car up to run as it should. cam timing is where power is made and lost in an engine

better remove it and try to re-time the the cam chain then!
Chank on tdc
and two gold links on chain timing up with the in-dents on the cam pullys !?!?
