Ma headgasket's kaput....

...well, leaking at any rate. Compression was about 60-65 psi on cylinder one, gradually dropping to around 45psi on cylinder 4. Coolant system's being pressurised, although no oil/water mixing at present. I reckon this all started when my water pump seized at the 20th Anniversary shindig

Anyway, the question: the gasket on there at the moment is one of the multi-layer HKS metal jobbies. Once I've had the head skimmed etc, should this still be OK to re-use (obviously if a visual inspection shows no obvious damage)?

Cheers

If you can strech your budget get a new HG. A cosworth one is cheap enough. Get new OEM head bolts too.

This is how my HKS ended up after 200miles (not more) . Problem originated probably from ARP head bolts.

Ah OK - I suppose it does seem pointless going to the effort of splitting the engine to then put it back together with an old gasket:lol:

What's this Cosworth gasket you speak of?

Cosworth make them - About half the price of the HKS and only need slightly modding to fit - Do a search on here = loads of info around

i wonder if anyone has actually contacted cosworth about making a gtir specific headgasket? i know its only 2 dowel holes, but they should be able to do that at factory.

if you were to modify the gasket, have issues with it, then try to claim you wouldnt have a chance!

who are the official distributors?

would you be able to ever actualy prove that it was the manifacturing of the headgasket that caused the problem or was the problem anyway, is it sort of like the rebuilt turbo fiasco saying its the cars fault never the part...

i dont know but youd def have less chance if the new gasket had been filed.

i know its not a big deal, but i doubt it would be for them just to wided the holes slightly?
