List price on Brand new Pulsar at Launch

What was the list price of the GTiR on UK launch? What were the available options etc?

Trying to figure this one out, as would love to know how the market has changed over the years relatively speaking. Was it more it more/ less than the performance Golf of the time? CRX etc?

Did anyone buy theirs brand new? Must be a rare thing now I know, but would be interesting to hear from you if you happen to be the only registered owner of your GTiR...

In '92 I guess it was the CRX VT, Civic/Del Sol VTi (i think they were called Si in the UK) that were available? The Si had 160bhp/136whp, so it wouldn't have kept up on the straights, but I think they'd be a match for the R in the bends.

shouldnt really be, as the 4wd should give the grip to get on the power earlier.
That is true, I just have a feeling that the understeer and suspension of the R is worse. I'm talking about stock cars mind you.
I do own a Del Sol as well, but as I haven't driven my R on track for such a long time I can't say for certain. :)

The brakes on the Honda are in a different league though, IMHO.

hehe yer, used to have one for spares. tipped it upside down with a jcb and the windscreen and roof bit just colapsed in and that was just from the cars weight, im not sure wtf it would be like in a crash but im sure it would be like a bean can lol

edit: note the bullshit of the marketing department - 100% to the rear and elimated turbo lag :p

price - maybe £20,553 + vat or other taxes?

options - i've never been able to find out what was available on the sunny (if any - but definitely much less than the pulsars)

crx and golf - pffft! :) unsure of their pricing when new, but not really in the same market as the 2ltr turbo awd cars developed by manufacturers for homolgation in group-a wrc available at the time (ie. escort cosworth, lancia integrale, impreza gt)

0-60mph:
7.23 = crx 1.6i mk3 VT (uk)
7.10 = golf mk3 vr6
5.42 = gti-r

0-400m:
15.5 @ 90.5mph = crx 1.6i mk3 VT (uk)
15.5 @ 90.5mph = golf mk3 vr6
13.8 @ 99.5mph = gti-r

tsukuba laps:
1:15.89 = crx del-sol vti (jdm)
1:12.54 = golf mk5 gti (closest available - vr6 would be slower)
1:09:75 = gti-r

Wow its really interesting to see the above information, especially 15-20 years on!

I was thinking about if Nissan were to release a jnr GT-R and it would be the new Pulsar, whether or not it could fit into the same market segment as previously. The new Golf and Scirroco R's are in at the 26-30k segment (options dependant) and if Nissan launched a new Pulsar in that area would it sell?

I know if there was a hatch on the market currently with GT-R on the front grille for 25-30k I would be on the waiting list! :thumbsup:

The Pulsar only stopped selling a few years ago (2007); I think it was repalced by the Tiida, which was a mistake because they lost the huge market share it had. The GTi-R is a different matter.

Here you'd get an Almera GTi-R because that's the Euopean version of the same platform (isn't it?) in the same way it was the Sunny here.
It's always possible though; you wouldn't have thought they'd bother making a new GTR, but they did. I suspect it wouldn't happen because it would compete with Renault's product lines (like the Clio), which might be bad for marketing.

EDIT: I might have that slightly wrong because the Clio platform is shared by the Micra and Note. The Tiida doesn't have a common platform with a Renault... so maybe the Micra GTi-R (using shared technology)? Or the Tiida after all so that it specifically doesn't compete directly with a sister car?

I think Nissan have missed a trick here. If I was Mr 'In charge' i'd bring out a mini Godzilla hatch with 4X4, DSG, 300 horse and set the price to undercut the Focus RS, Golf R and the like. They did it with the GT-R so why not bribble the technology down into the mid sector?

Perhaps they don't wish to tread on the toes of the Megane Cup or Sport or whatever it is. Or perhaps they spent all their cash developing the Leaf who knows?

Fingers crossed then :-D

peugot 205 gti = £11.5k
renault 19 16v = £13k
volvo 850 = £19k
ford sierra rs cosworth = £22.5k
audi quattro 20v coupe = £23k
rover 820 turbo = £24k
lancia delta hf integrale = £25k
