It's possible that someone installed a wide-band lambda sensor in the place of the "hot dog" sensor, but as above; it's not a lambda sensor originally.
The one near the cat is the 'cat overheating' sensor, doesn't do anything other than tell you when you're cat's gotten too hot (a basic manufacturers way of telling you are running lean etc)
It just brings a light up on the dash, bottom row 2nd ffrom right from memory.
I thought it was solely to warn you not to park over anything combustable (like dry grass); it's perfectly acceptable for the catalyst to get hot, so even if the light comes on it's nothing to be concerned about really... it's not even connected to the ECU (although some people have reported an issue with poor running when it comes on, but I suspect that's an electrical short).
thanks guys i have built the car from scratch morealess and orderd a mongose pipe and there is a hole were the cat temp sensor shud go or woteva it is will it b ok to just blank this off
