Intercooler Fan

I've noticed a lot of intercooler water spray kits for sale lately, and was wondering, why can't an electric fan be used to cool your intercooler down as it is with a rad?

Probably something to do with any benefits to power you may achieve with the lower charge temperature are less than the power required to drive the fan.

I thought about this before, briefly

Some motors (mr2 turbo, mitsubishi pajero td etc.) do have a fan fitted to the intercooler, but it is usually because of the poor factory location limiting airflow at low speeds.
You are prob better frontmounting and ensuring you have a good airflow path through your cooler than bothering with leccy fans.

A front mount is difinitely the way I want to go, but I've also seen front mounts with misting kits on. Is it really needed on a front mount, or is it a little overkill?

I've heard a few people say you can't fit a fan to the intercooler, as it cant spin fast enough at high speed and ends up blocking the normal airflow. Would only work if it wasn't in the direct line airflow I suppose...

i thought about this yesterday funny. but what if your sitting in traffic then i think it will benefit. just brainstorming. also i think it would look tacky too and wierd in my opinion.

heres a good idea

ever seen an f1 without its engine cowling?
they dont run fans, but normal cars do! why?

well it has to do with the speed they travel at

a fan is used SOLEY when the car isnt moving, or is moving slowly

yes it becomes a flow restriction at high speeds, but its only job is to move air through the core when the forward momentum of the car is not present

so possibly this could aleviate heat soak from a top mount even

my two scents

ps i love cats, dead ones

IIRC all fans are there to do is change the air pressure at the rear of whatever u r cooling to allow the air to flow thru. They dont actually suck the air thru, and is the reason why u dont normally see fans mounted on the front of coolers.
