technically yes it is worth it, but dont use it on tubular manifolds, the idea of it is to keep the heat into the parts your wrapping, which can have knock on effects on stainless mani's as it accelerates the cracking, cast manifolds and down pipes are worth it, dont put it on intercooler pipes. you can get proper jackets made of the stuff for turbos.

oh and errrr... put some shoulder length gloves on if your gonna diy, coz its not much fun once you start itching. :x

its designed for keeping heat in, apparently hot gases kept in exit faster thru decreased density. wether its of any great advatage i dont know.

it wont radiate heat away just insulate it which is exactly what you dont want on i/c pipes.

Its just a case of reading and making ur mind up. A lot of the issues they are on about are with non factory manifolds, ie non cast iron ones. If u can afford the coating take that route but I still think I will be wrapping mine. That or a heatshield is a good idea on SS, allows the air to circulate around.

i wrapped my stainless manifold and it got so hot the wrap turned like glass, and started cracking and falling off, the manifold was absolutely sound when i got it even tho it was second hand, i believe if it hadnt been wrapped it would be fine today rather than in the bin

I was reading a topic on the skyline forum about heat wrap/ceramic coating. Heat wrap isn't meant to be very good on stainless manifolds as its impossible to wrap the manifold 100% evenly which causes hot spots and results in cracks.

Yeah the main issue is hot spots forming. Obviously cast doesnt have this issue due to its thickness and material composition.

most the Fords these days have white ceramic coated manifolds on the high power cars, and they seem to hold up perfectly.

i bet its not cheap to have done tho???

I had my manifold, turbo elbow and downpipe ceramic coated, it cost £360. Its white as well and is known as Thermohold GP.

I had my turbo done before it was shipped over, It cost me $100 .
