head studs

my mate had a manifold blow for a while and today he decided to change the gasket on his rover coupe turbo. when he looked at the studs in the head for the manifold to bolt on, a couple of them looked as if they were put in on the piss!
my question is if he takes them out and trys to put them back in straight and they dont want to grip beacause the thread is a bit knackered, is there a way to make them back/stay in the head? or is it as good as scrap? are there any ways round it, for a crap example by filling the holes with gripfill and sticking the studs in?! :p :der:
or can you drill new, slightly bigger threads and get bigger studs?
any help appreciated,thanks

try and retap the thread first, stay away from the gripfill

if you must mess with adhesives...jb autoweld for the win

gripfill:shock:

like queer boy says try retapping the hole first  but if its going in at an angle i fear someone has previously snapped the stud off and redrilled and tapped them but :? not quite straight

providing the studs are holding, may seem like a lashup! but tell him to put them back on the p1ss with a new gasket (unless they are easily accessible) which some of them are not on the rover k series.

if there not holding then try to retap them, jb weld is a real last resort lol
