Heads coming off today suspect head gasket
Need some help with timing and best place to get gaskets ext cheers

Are you going to be uprating the power or just leaving it moderately standard (power wise)?

Been told by previous owner that it's a 2.1 forged engine but won't no until I remove head

That might be why it failed. - Dropped liners for example?

No how do I tell if it's dropped liner and if it's forged

Pistons are forged..liners look stock..measure the bore..if over 87.5mm it is linered..if 86mm to the above its highly unlikely..looks like the head is the issue as you have gas track marks between to cylinders....

Certainly a full strip and rebuild though, do it right do it once, it's a hard lesson I've learned anyway.

Just measured bores on block they 86.5 MM. is this standard ? Was told it was 2.1cc engine

Maybe it's a stroker rather than over-bore if you're confident it's really 2.1L... in which case has it been over-rev'd?

Maybe they were talking bollocks!

It happens quite a bit with these cars as not many people know what they are talking about!

I'd get it checked to make sure its not a "stroker" and when you find out, you can either stick to a 2.0 (with an overbore @ 86.5mm) or buy a new stroker kit ( £££££)

I personally I think its a 2.0L with an overbore @ 86.5mm - I'd stick with that as it should be easier and cheaper to rebuild!

Why worry a good 2l build can produce more power than you would think...there is two owners running 550hp on stock con rods, and stock cranks are being run at over 1200hp.

I assume it was an aftermarket head gasket that failed? What the other said regarding the previous build, it probably just had a piston fail so the quickest repair route is a mild overbore and forged pistons. I'm going 87.5mm this time which if you squint a bit is 2.1l but my original plan was <87mm
