Something isnt right on my car it wont rev up properly.

revs perfect in neutral and when in gear revs just over 4 and wont go higher makes a rev limiter noise/as if u were redlinin it but at 4?

this might sound stupid but could it be the speed converter? as i have noticed this has started to play up as well?

when does the turbo start producing boost? could be the spark getting 'blown out' i.e. not a strong enough spark, check distributor cap/rotor arm/resitance of plug leads/spark plug gap/condition

Sounds to me like it's in limp mode. - as Imran says; do a fault code check (I'm putting my money on "DET Sensor").
