Gtir ecconomy?

Hi all, just got a question which I hope you can answer, am I right in thinking that if the pulsar is driven off boost, the fuel ecconomy is okay? I know if you constantly blast any car the ecconomy isn't great but what if you drive with a relatively 'light' left foot!

Ideally I would like to be able to get reasonable ecconomy when driven 'normally' whille still being fun when driven with a heavy right foot.

R's aint economy cars.....25 on a run if yr lucky, single figures if you want to enjoy

Before the rebuild i was getting as good as 33mpg. Since the rebuild I can get it to around 28mpg

I manage low 20's on the motorway if im lucky, combined its mid to low teens.

Simply put if your worried about mpg then dont bother, as even if you can manage to fuel it the extra wear and tear from using it as a daily will hit your wallet in the end!

Define "okay economy".

I generally get about 200 miles out of a tank; less than that and I feel like I've been ragging it. More and I'm pleased with my economy.

Realistically the only way to get good (for a GTi-R) economy is to get the car to the national speed limit and stick to it (don't overtake, and try not to loose momentum). - Empirically the best economy seems to be as the turbo is just starting to spool (so the boost is ever so slightly positive). I haven't tried different RPMs or anything; I've just noticed that at about 70mph in 5th I'm making something like 0.3bar and the fuel level seems to drop more slowly on the gauge.

I gave up trying to drive lightly to save fuel. If I want to do that, I park the R and get the 1086cc Amica out; you don't go anywhere quickly, but it costs nothing to run so I can average the fuel spend out.

I'd say I get about 200-220 miles to a tank, and that costs about £50 for shell v-power, that's if I'm making an effort to conserve petrol, if not it can go as low as 150 miles to a tank. I guess a car running as close to standard will have better fuel economy than one that's been considerably modified. Driving it round town you'd see around 20mpg.

I got 300+ miles on v-power on and off boost, never had a problem with my pulsar fuel wise. I drove from birmingham to steve at fc tuning, got my car dyno'd, street tuned and drove it back to birmingham all on a full tank of fuel

I can get around 300 out of mine with some hard driving bit if I'm on the pedal all the time I'm lucky to see 250

It's going around town that seems to drink all my fuel

cost me about £40-£45 to do 180mile to cadwell park from newcastle and that was doing about 65 ,

the whole trip cost me £130 in fuel, did about 400 mile in total

I was achieving 40 mpg on a long run down south off boost and using normal unleaded petrol, And that's with 1000cc injectors and over 500 bhp lol.

But I could lower that to around 4 or 5 mpg at full boost (1.9bar) on Optimax, I think the secret to my cars good long run economy was my very well mapped Motec ECU because I never managed those kind of figures on the standard ECU before I started down the slippery tuning slope many moons ago.

puzzled why you would ask really as youve been a member for over 2 years and surely in that time you would have found out for yourself what fuel economy is like:?

Are you sure that's mpg not kpg?:lol:

I bought a pulsar from portsmounth and drove it to Glasgow it was bog standard still had cat ect. That was 450 mile and I used about 60 quid worth of petrol. So standard car isn't to bad.

I'm not sure if people would agree, but when I gave my Almera GTi (which was doing just over 200miles to a tank) an engine flush my MPG went up by a huge amount. I can now return 280+miles to a take, with a moderate amount of heavy right foot (inclusive many quick motorway runs). if people are having issues with mpg give a flush a go. worth its weight in gold in my opinion.

you might need to read the owners manual, the accelerator is on the right........

mine does 35-40mpg off boost (about 380 per tank),and about 5mpg on boost very hard driving (about 60 miles per tank!!)
