The plastic cover at the bottom of the gear stick seems to be broken on mine just wondered how they go so i know if some clips have broken off.

By plastic cover, do you mean the gaitor that goes between the underside of the gearknob and the plastic trim in between the seats?
If you have a Sunny, it's a rubber shaped thing, whereas the Pulsar one is a leather drapey thing.
I can't remember how it works, but i had to get a new one when i first got my car, and i can remember it was a extremely easy to sort out. Just take off the trim at the bottom of the gearstick (prise it up with a flathead screwdriver, then just literally pulls off) and have a butchers at it. If you want to get it all the way off, you'll need to unscrew the geraknob, which on my car was an absolute pig.
