fuel pump problem?

Hi all,

I have just fitted a swirl pot and a 044 fuel pump.
The 044 will not turn off when up to pressure like the pump in tank used too? is this because it will never get up to pressure as it goes round the fuel rail then back to the swirl pot then back to tank?

I was checking the volts etc with the car not started but the pump running and when i went to start it it seamed it was flooded a bit as it took a while to start and smelt like a fare bit of fuel coming out the exhaust?

Will the engine be getting more fuel now? i hope not as i just got it mapped, the fuel pressure should just stay the seam and the rest gets returned back to the fuel tank?

I also noticed that the fuel light comes on now? it has over 1/2 a tank of fuel?

Any answers would be a help ;-)

Are you still using pump in tank to fill swirlpot? and 044 to feed engine. Also where are you getting feed to supply 044 pump?
My tank pump stops after a few seconds, but main pump runs continuously.

Yes still using the pump in the tank to fill the swirl pot, not sure if that does turn off after a few seconds? it used too but the 044 runs continuosly so cant hear if the other one is still running?

I have run a new + to a relay then to the 044 pump.

Thats exactly the same wiring that I have and my main pump does not stop, but should not flood unless injector is leaking.

Do you mean the quick buzz from the standard fuel pump when you switch the ignition on or are you on about whilst the car is running?

Have you got the 044 wired through a relay using the signal wire that energizes the standard fuel pump relay?

The engine stops fine but the 044 never stops? but i suppose it will never stop as it goes through the fuel rail and back to the swirl pot (round and round)

I have only started the car up a few times in the garage so might just need a run as it has 750cc injectors and and maybe running a bit rich?

I just got the injectors back from getting overhauled so should be ok as they car only got mapped and did one sprint.

Will take it for a blast tomorrow.

Yes, i am used to switching on the ignition and you hear the standard fuel pump buzz for a few seconds the stop, this might still happen?
I used the black and red wire on top of the fuel tank to switch the relay on.

What makes the standard fuel pump stop when up to pressure or just a time?

Why would my fuel ight be on now?
i did tighten up the big plastic nut on top of the fuel tank, might of moved the sender? the fuel gauge still shows 1/2?

What signal wire should i use?

There's a signal wire (from the ecu i think) to the standard fuel pump relay that tells the relay when it should be energized, can't remember which one it is off the top of my head. For example if you stall the engine or if if cuts out it tells the the relay to cut off and stops the fuel pump.

Think its more of a safety measure because if you crashed your car the last thing you want is the fuel pump to keep running chucking fuel everywhere

Ok thanks,
My friend Bobby used the black/red wire to turn on relay but he has only ran new wires to his in tank fuel pump and that has worked fine so far so if i crached etc the pump in the fuel tank would stop and the 044 what keep on going until the swirl pot was empty?
Dont think there is any other way round it?
unless i use the + wire that goes to the pump in the tank to switch the relay on this would stop both pumps?
