front end floating

i decided to pull my finger out and fit my new gearbox that i had off dan ...red reading... 3 months ago and have a general tidy up. Once fitted i decided to take it up the rd for a quick test drive, as i had no bonnett or bumper it was only a quick one but it feels like the front end is floating, sliding and not connected to steering wheel :doh::doh: do not understand as i checked all bolts and i have not touched the steering PLEASE HELP

Have you removed the drive shafts and hence the lower arm etc?

If so, your tracking will be way out and will probably be the reason for the floating feeling. Check tracking and then re-road test.

have you left off the bracer bar under the front of the car??
