look at trondelands thread (hes never done one before but has done a cracking job, and should be an inspiration to everyone) dont get to involved with textbook stuff too much as sometimes things sound complicated but they are not in reality. and ask if you get stuck on anything, theres always someone that will help you;-)

thats what the club's here for ;-)

nick, get a copy of the workshop manuals and go for it. Other than knowledge and the right tools for the job (which aren't that specialised), if your doing it yourself pay meticulous attention to keeping the workshop or area your working in spotless, dirt and dust are the engines enemy.

You flatter me, bobby. :p But he's right. If I can do it, you can. It just takes more time and money when you start out knowing nothing, but fortunately those are two things we all have plenty of.
It's actually a lot of fun, but I suggest you don't set a definite time you're going to do it in, as stuff WILL happen. Furthermore you learn a lot about your car, how it works and how to work on it. But with 558 posts I suspect you know your way around it already. :D

I do recommend getting a torque wrench or two, if you're anything like me and overtighten absolutely everything you come across. Just remember to read the right torque settings. I didn't once.

You'll ned a bittorrent client to download torrents. The one everyone recommends is Azureus. I'm using uTorrent, and I'm loving it. Just remember to set up your ports right.

I rebuilt my engine myself and its still running sweet. It does look scary first of all but as long as you take your time and stay focused on your goals thjen you will be fine. I did cheat mind you and get my machine shop who balanced up the bottom end to put the rings on pistons and put the crank in and pistons in etc.....Thats the bit that needs to be right.
