ECU self diagnostics problems

Aloha people,
stupid question but did anyone have the info
for self diagnostics of GTiR ECU
what indicate the signals,
please help if U can

In the fuse box in the car at the bottom you'll see a grey multiplug about 1.5" long in the top right of the plug you should see 2 pins on there own, turn the ignition on but don't start it, bridge thse 2 pins with a paper clip or something i find a fork is just the right size[;)]and hold it there for a few seconds then remove, the engine management light(yellow right hand side of dash)should now be flashing a series of codes eg 5 long 5 short is no faults[;)]to stop it flashing either turn the ignition off or bridge the pins again for a few secs and the light should come on and stay on.
