Was it definatly grey smoke :?: Not black :?:

If it was black then it could just be that a hose has popped off somewhere, but if it was grey then check its not using water or running hot.

Might be worth doing a compression test too

But didn't it have some of those special nissan hardened pistons fitted :? ,So it should be bullet proof :roll: .

I'd look at det sensor/AFM or a hose popped off first.
After that maybe check the turbo. Although at this stage I wouldn't worry too much as it'll probably be one of the first 3. (fingers crossed)

What boost was it running amd what boost is it running now when it gets there? If it's chucking out lots of black smoke, check the hoses first then the afm.

AFM should show up on a fault code check.
