De-coking combustion chambers?

A good idea mate but don't waste your money on this branded shit.

Get yourself to your local motor factors and get some EGR cleaner or even just normal carb cleaner (that's basically all that will be in that branded can, just 5 times the price.

I had the same problem with my old dears Mitsubishi pinin. It's a direct injection engine (injects fuel directly into the cylinder and not into the inlet) and there fore fuel never see's the back of the inlet valves. Now as oil and vapour gets thrown back through the inlet as it does with our gtir's it slowly starts to carbonise and coke up the inlet valves leading to rough running - and cause they are direct injection there is no natural 'washing' effect on the back of the inlet valves. It's a common problem with them, even Mitsubishi use oven cleaner (I shit you not, main dealer advice) which works, but I made mmy own way which also does ;)

Get a can of EGR cleaner or half a can of carb cleaner (they are larger), remove the inlet elbow nearest the inlet plenum ((I.e. do NOT spray through your mad or turbo) and get someone to hold the revs steady at 2k. Take your EGR/carb cleaner and give it quick double spray bursts into the inlet, as you do this the revs will drop off a little - perfectly normal. AAs soon as the revs settle, another quick double squirt and repeat from there.

Effectively what you are doing is just creating a 'washing' effect on the back of the iinlet valves.

Refit your turbo hose, clear any codes that may get thrown up in the ecu. Repeat if necessary, you shouldn't really have to.

Get EGR cleaner if you can , it will do a better job.

Will it clear any carbon build up in the conbustion chamber, coz i ran my R with the turbo smoking like a gud'n nd now ive got a noise that sounds like det/pinkin/pre ignition lol

On an n/a engine ok but don't think I would do that with a turbo lump, where does all the carbon go once you've loosened it. Even an oil change wouldn't guarantee getting it all out.

True that.

The cleaner will soften up your carbon build up, if any - then maybe a soft drive afterwards. As said just be careful, it has to exit through the turbine but you should be fine.

If you are worried, there is nothing like a good fucking thrash to get rid of carbon build up, the petrol will still create a washing effect.

Good old Italian tune up, you know?

Oil has been changes a few times since ive been fukin bout with it trying to cure it lol nd its a good point, where does tge carbon go after it loosened off, back thru the exhaust side of my turbo, or back into my oil? Arrrrghhhh lol i might just take the head off to do it, its almost had a full rebuild now lol will be in showroom condition if it keeps going this way lmao its a good job i love the bloody thing lol

I still think you need someone who knows these inside out to listen to it. I'm not saying your diagnosis is wrong I just think you need a second opinion before you start pulling it apart again.

Very true, a few of the lads at work have been out with me for a drive and agree with what i say but nobody anywhere near me specialises in these cars and would not risk driving too far in it at the moment lok

You burn the carbon off. - That's the idea of using a solvent to dissolve it. Even if you do get some larger bits, the chances are that they're still too fine to do anything to the exhaust valves or the turbine.

Are you still running the standard rocker breather into the inlet? Possible rings worn and causing blow by forcing oil out the rocker? Long shot, but...

It's worth doing the cleaning but I would be very surprised if this is your problem. It sounds like you've almost convinced yourself of it?

Eliminate it as a problem and then go from there, how about a bore scope down the inlet to check the backs of the inlet valves?
