crap radio reception

is there anyway to boost the signal?my r gets a pish reception compared to any other cars i had.its the same head unit from my old car and the arial is connected so its not that.any ideas?

might be there is a dodgey connection from the arial to the socket in the dash, mine works fine never had any signal probs with the R
