clicking door pin

My door is clicking and it really annoys me :evil: When you sit in the car and open the door you see a small black piece of metal coming from the car onto the door and it has a little pin about 2 cm big going through it. Well that bit of black metal from the car to the door keeps moving up and down but makes a really annoying click. Has any one else had this :?:

Yep, its called a check strap. Havent had a prob on my R but done a few at work.
Common probs are
1. The metal bracket on the A post breaks/welds break....will need welding
2. The mechanism inside the door comes away from the door..either tighten the bolts or the door frame may be bent where the bolts go thru
3. The pin is loose or worn, its just a roll pin usually so just tap it in with a hammer
4. The mechanism inside the door is faulty and will need replacing.

Its a bit awkward to explain without showing you in person

Ok cheers mate i'll have a look when i go home later. On my one the small bit off metal moves about 2mm but it makes a noise on MATTGTiR and on my passenger side there is no movemnet at all. I'll look and report back later
