I have a 4WD Primera, pretty much a non turbo sedan version of the GTIR 
But when I have the car in gear and im on the gas there is a loud clanking noise that gets faster with the RPM. If I put the clutch in, it goes away and if its out of gear it goes away. But if im going down a hill in gear and its engine braking it makes the noise again.
So in conclusion there is a clank clank clank when the car is under load.
Im not sure if its clutch related or gearbox. But one would think since the gears in the gearbox are still spinning when the clutch pedal is down, and the noise stops then it wouldn't be gearbox related. So perhaps something has split off the clutch plate and its rattling round inside the bell housing.
Any ideas or similar experiences. The Engine/Gearbox will be coming out in the next few weeks.
