car's stuttering

when running in neutral or in gear, the car's stuttering, but if u put the clutch down, it runs fine, not stuttering...the maf sensor's gubbed and there's a funny smell under the bonnet, very small faint bit of smoke out the exhaust, think the maf sensor would be causing this?

Hey mate, yeh the MAF will deffinately cause this, best get it sorted as soon as and save riskin causing any more probs.
